The number of women smokers is increasing. For women smoking it can cause premature menopause. In women, premature menopause will occur before the age of 40 years. If this happens then the woman would be difficult to get pregnant because she was experiencing premature ovarian failure (POF).

A recent study by researchers at Imperial College in London showed that the pill is not a factor for early menopause, but researchers have found a relationship with cigarettes.
